ANZSEE field trip on Thursday the  22nd   of October 2015

  • 9.30am meet at Visitor Info Centre, Marsh St, Armidale  –Here
  • 9.45am aboard bus for Point Lookout- Here
  • 11.00am arrive at Point lookout for morning tea break (provided)
  • 11.15am begin tour and 200 metre walk (approximate) to Point Lookout

Point Lookout, a mountain on the Snowy Range, a spur of the Great Dividing Range, is located in the New England National Park on the eastern edge of the Northern Tablelands in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. This place is the second highest peak in the region. During cold spells the mountain may receive a light dusting of snow. Also, The lookout has spectacular views east across the Bellinger River valley, out to the more developed areas of the north coast of New South Wales and the Tasman Sea on a clear day.

The Dorrigo National Park is part of the New England Group of the World Heritage Site Gondwana Rainforests of Australia inscribed in 1986 and added to the Australian National Heritage List in 2007.This national park is recognised as an area of exceptional natural beauty with significant habitats of outstanding value to science and conservation. The Rainforest Centre is a major CERRA interpretation centre. The interactive display, The Rainforest Revealed, explains how the rainforest evolved and gives insights into the animal and plant species that live there.

  • 3.30pm Wollomombi Falls.
The Wollomombi Falls (from an Aboriginal word), is a plunge waterfall on the Wollomombi River located in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. The Wollomombi Falls are situated atop the Wollomombi Gorge near the confluence of the Wollomombi River with the Chandler River. The falls descend from an elevation of 907 metres above sea level in one drop of 100 metres, with a total descend that ranges in height between 150–230 metres depending on the flow of the river.

  • 9.45am aboard bus for Ebor Falls-Here
  • 11.00am arrive and undertake 600 metre walk
The falls are a well-known tourist attraction within Guy Fawkes River National Park, with viewing platforms of the falls and walking tracks, a rest area with barbecues, an information display, picnic tables and toilet. In 2008 the waterfalls were attracting up to 80,000 visitors each year. The falls were first protected in a recreation reserve in 1895.

Making the Marginal Mainstream: Culture, Art, Gardening, Shared Learnings and Sustainability Transformation

  • 9.00am Meet at Tourist Centre, Marsh St to catch bus to Aboriginal Keeping Place, Kentucky St – Here
  • 9.30am  Arrive The Region Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place for tour
The Region Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place, is a community-based centre where you can experience the diversity of Australian Indigenous arts and culture.
  • 10.30am Morning tea at Echidna Café
The Echidna Café creates scrumptious Aboriginal inspired food.
  • 10.45 Depart for NERAM art conservation and printing museum tour + viewing of back room collection – Here
  • 11.45 Depart NERAM for Community Garden while viewing Black Gully Creek revegetation project – Here
The main aim of this project was to rehabilitate a section of Black Gully by involving the wider community and local community organisations in a series of innovate and fun days. Black Gully is a second order stream which feeds into Dumaresq Creek, and improvements in water quality in the gully will help improve overall water quality in the creek and catchment area. Revegetating the creek with local native species increased the area of habitat and vegetation, and helped to increase local biodiversity. 
  • 12.30pm Depart for Joshua Nash’s Place – Lunch and Sustainable household showcase
  • 2.00pm Depart Josh’s Place for UNE campus via bus
  • 2.30pm Begin Aboriginal Learnings Workshop at Ooralla Centre (‘Meeting Place’)
